The admissions process at Ware Academy is designed to acquaint prospective students and their families with the School.  Applications are accepted at any time, but families are urged to apply by March 1st for the following school year.  The admissions process typically includes the following steps:

  1. Inquiry - Inquiries by telephone, email or letter are welcome.
  2. Parent visit - After receiving the Ware information packet, parents call the School to arrange for an appointment with the Director of Admissions.  The initial parent interview and visit includes a tour of the School, an overview of the programs at Ware, and a meeting with the Headmaster.
  3. Application -   A completed application form with a $75 non-refundable application fee and a completed Parent’s Questionnaire are required before the  admissions process continues.  At this point in the process, parents must request that a copy of transcripts from the child’s present school be sent to Ware Academy.

  4. Pre-K4 and Kindergarten applicants:
Applicants for Pre-K4 must be 4 years of age and applicants of Kindergarten must be 5 years of age by September 30th.  Applicants are screened to assess a child’s developmental age and readiness using a test from the Gesell Institute of Human Development.

They are also asked to spend an hour visiting with other prospective students.

  5. Student visit - All applicants for grades 1-8 are expected to visit the School for a day in the grade in which they are currently enrolled.  During that visit, the student takes part in normal classroom activities.  This visit helps both the School and the student to learn about each other.  Applicants for Kindergarten do not have to spend the whole day, but are asked to join the class for part of the day.  The suitability of our program for an applicant will be ascertained during his/her visit to the School through an in-class math, writing, and reading sample.  In some cases, part or all of a standardized test will also be used in the evaluation process.
  6. Admissions Decisions and Notification - Admissions decisions are made by the Headmaster and the admissions committee based on the student’s academic record, readiness for the grade in question, Teacher Recommendation(s) Teacher’s Recommendation Form [ Doc | PDF ] , Click here to download Transcript Release Form [ Doc | PDF ], admission evaluation, school visit and availability of space at a given grade level.  Every effort is made to ensure that Ware Academy and the student are well matched and that the applicant will have a successful experience at Ware Academy.  Notifications of the Admissions Committee decision is normally mailed within one week of the completion of all admissions requirements.  Once an applicant is accepted to the School, parents are offered an enrollment contract.  It must be signed and returned with a non-refundable deposit applied toward the tuition fee to reserve a space.  The offer is made under a deadline (which may be extended by the Headmaster) within which the parents must return the signed contract along with the appropriate deposit.
