The Shadow Day is an important part of the admissions process for students applying to grades 6 and 9. It provides an opportunity for the student to experience part of a school day at Menlo, and it gives us an opportunity to meet each applicant. The shadow day is meant to be a relaxed, enjoyable experience that we hope will answer some of your child’s questions about Menlo School.

Although we make every effort to accommodate all applicants, shadow days are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. If shadow days are unavailable, we will schedule your child for an interview. Each applicant must have a shadow day or a one-hour visit to complete the application process. Please note that students applying to grades 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 will be scheduled for an interview only.

How to schedule a shadow day

Please call the Admissions Office at (650) 330-2001 ext. 2601 to arrange a day for your child to shadow or to have an interview. You need not submit any part of the application before calling to schedule a appointment. You must submit the Student/Family Information From and the application fee two weeks prior to your scheduled shadow day. We recommend that you call early to ensure the availability of a shadow day.

What to expect on your shadow day

Each applicant will be matched with a current 6th grade or 9th grade ambassador. Your child’s ambassador will take him or her to classes and to lunch. Then, your child will return to the Admissions Office for an interview with the Director of Admissions.
