CAS has rolling admissions with no application deadline date. All applicants are added to the wait list and are processed based on space availability.

Admissions Procedures

  1. Review Admissions Checklist and all forms.
  2. Attend an evening Visitors Information Night at CAS.
  3. Complete application and all other forms and submit to admissions office.
  4. Submit psycho-educational assessments including tests of achievement and cognitive (I.Q.) assessment, etc…
  5. Submit Slingerland Screening Test to identify specific language disability and specific areas of strength and weakness.
  6. Schedule student shadowing and interview.
  7. Schedule Parent interview.
  8. Register for and attend CAS Summer School - Required of all new students. (Summer School 2008 information available soon.)

The entire Application packet is reviewed by Charles Armstrong School’s Admissions Committee when the student application file is complete and space becomes available.

Admissions Checklist

Requirements for 2008 Fall Enrollment

1. Completion of the entire application containing the following:

  1. Student Application w/ current student and family photo.
  2. Parent Questionnaire
  3. Teacher Recommendation Form
  4. Education/Tutor Services
  5. Counselor/Psychologist Services (If applicable)
  6. Release Form
  7. Copy of most recent report card
  8. Standard Vision and Hearing Test results obtained from the school district or pediatrician
  9. Work samples: writing, spelling, math
  10. Application fee (one time non-refundable) in the amount of $150 payable to Charles Armstrong School

2. Arrange for the following assessments and evaluations to be completed. Our Preferred Referral List may be helpful to you.

  • Psycho-educational Evaluation (within the last year): WISC-IV, WPPSI or WJ-III accepted.  Report must include CAS Requirements.
  • Academic Achievement Test (within the last year):  WIAT or Woodcock Johnson accepted. Written report must include CAS Requirements and Summary included in application forms.
  • Gray Oral Reading Test (GORT): Written report must include CAS Requirements and Summary included in application forms.
  • Test of Written Language (TOWL): Written report must include CAS Requirements and Summary included in application forms.
  • Conner’s Test of Behavioral Issues or Behavioral Assessment System for Children (BASC): Written report must include CAS Requirements and Summary included in application forms.
  • Slingerland Screening Test for the Identification of Specific Language Disability.  Copy of the CAS Formatted Report and Slingerland Screening Test Booklet required.
  • IEP (if applicable) - Copy of complete report.
  • **After Acceptance: Most recent standardized test from current school (example: Gray Oral Reading Test – GORT (required),  SAT10, CAT6, ERB, ISEE, Star).  Available in the spring.

3.  Attendance at Visitors Information Night
To be more fully acquainted with our school and our programs please reserve your space by contacting Christy Cochran, x 237. You may also make arrangements for a self-guided classroom observation through Christy Cochran.

4. Student Shadowing and Interviews
Student candidates will be invited to “shadow” in a classroom for 2 days as part of the admissions process. Classroom “buddies” will be assigned to guide our visitors through the activities of the day and answer any questions. Student interviews are scheduled during this visit. A representative from the Admissions’ Office will contact you to arrange this.

5. Parent Interview
The parents of each student candidate for enrollment for the next school year will be interviewed by the Head or Assistant Head of School.  Interviews are scheduled after the student shadows with us.   A representative from the Admission Office will contact you to arrange this.

6. Attendance at CAS’ Summer School and Ed Camp 2008
New students enrolled for the fall must attend CAS’s summer school and camp programs, unless other arrangements have been made with us. (Summer School 2008 information available soon.)
